Xiaomi Mi 6 with Snapdragon 835, 6GB of RAM and dual cameras not to launch in US and Europe
Xiaomi started its operations in the US and Europe in June 2015. However, the company is stil to launch its smartphones in these western countries. Now the latest reports suggest that it may not launch its recently-launched flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 too in these regions.
The company's vice president Wang Xiang told Engadget in an interview, "Even though we don't sell [in the US or Western Europe], we feel very sorry for not serving them well," Wang said. He reasoned that in terms of supply chain and manpower, Xiaomi's resources are stretched thin serving 30 regions, most of which are developing markets. "What we're after is a mass market, a massive impact, as opposed to a premium, elite thing. We want innovation for everyone."
Xiaomi largely sells its accessories in these market.
Late last month, the Chinese company launched its latest flagship smartphone Mi 6 in its home country China. It's the successor to the Mi 5, which the company launched last year.
Powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 flagship SoC, Xioami Mi 6 has 6GB of RAM. The smartphone sports a 5.15-inch Full HD display, which the company claims satisfies China's colour standards and prevents discomfort caused due to colour shifts. The Mi 6 has a four-sided 3D-glass design, and has a Home button with integrated fingerprint sensor at the front. It's also splash-resistant.
Notably, the Mi 6 is the first Xiaomi smartphone that doesn't include a 3.5mm audio jack. However, the smartphone does come with stereo speakers for an enhanced audio listening experience. This is also the first smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker to come without a 3.5mm audio jack. There are two variants available based on internal storage - 64GB and 128GB.
Running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system topped with MIUI skin, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has numerous software optimizations such as the ability to block apps from starting and freeze background-running apps. There's also a 3,350mAh battery included in the mix, complete with Quick Charge 4.0 support.
As for cameras, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has a dual rear camera setup with 12MP lenses (one wide-angle and one telephoto), OIS and 4K video recording capability. There is also an 8MP selfie camera.
